THE MORNING REPORT
2011 ARBA ConvENTION
(11-2-11)
Hi, all,
I'm so sorry for my delay in posting on FB. It's taken me a bit to soak everything in from yesterday.
Presentation failing in all three varieties was a huge disappointment for us, but more than that
I hate that I let all of you down. That's an even harder pill for me to swallow.
Let me say though that I do not for a second blame the Standards Committee.
They are working with the standard ...as I wrote it. I had thought I had been very careful in my
selections this year and thought I had checked carefully that all were within the standard requirements.
Unfortunately at least one animal in each variety had transition wool on the flanks that was
longer than 2". Entirely MY bad, not the fault of the committee. Additionally, I made a clerical error
on the Blacks by not checking that the tattoo I had on my pedigree matched what I had tattooed
in my Jr doe's ear. Again entirely MY bad and tied the hands of the SC. I have nothing but the
utmost respect for this group of people and what they do. This is a grueling process,
but then anything worth having shouldn't come easy.

That said I did receive very encouraging feedback that the committee was happy with the
overall type on the presentation, so we are definitely moving in the right direction.
The committee recommended changes to the standard which would prevent a recurrence of
what happened this year. I have to say, guys, this committee wants to see us succeed with this breed.
We have their support and failing presentation this year was almost as disappointing to them as it was to me.

So, where do we go from here??? We can look at this as a set back or as an opportunity.
Personally, I'm looking at it as an opportunity. I will be re-evaluating my herd upon my return home
and will be submitting some changes of my standard to the Committee in regards to the transition wool.
Please be patient with me while I work to decide how best to proceed with these changes.
I will let everyone know what they are once I have approval from the committee.

I'm already gearing up and anxious to continue working on getting this unique little breed passed.
I am sitting at the Indy Airport already planning breedings and considering all I have to do to make
additional progress this year....merely a stumbling block, but now I'm ready to hit the
ground running once we return home.

We want to thank all the incredible LH breeders that were at the Convention this year.
Cheryl and I truly have an amazing support network in all of you.
I don't know how I would have made it through yesterday without that!!
Thank you to the incredible breeders who stepped up to get my animals off the presentation table
when I needed to time to process the reality of failure. At least I knew my beloved presentation string
were in caring hands. You guys are the best. And to all that have offered support and encouragement via
text, email, and facebook.....THANK YOU!! I will work hard this year to ensure next year is more successful!!

Theresa
